A binding agent (or binder) in painting is the crucial film-forming component that holds pigment particles together, makes paint stick to surfaces, and provides durability, adhesion, and integrity. It's the backbone of paint, determining properties like finish and water resistance, with common examples including oils (linseed, walnut), acrylic polymers, gum arabic (for watercolors), and even egg yolk (tempera).
