The filbert brush combines the broad coverage of a flat brush with a softly rounded, oval tip, allowing artists to create smooth strokes with soft, controlled edges. Winsor & Newton describes the filbert as a flat-headed brush with an oval tip designed to produce broad marks with softer edges.
